Persona Profile

We are looking at mental health in teenagers and how social media is affecting them. A lot of teenagers are already self conscious and comparing themselves to their peers but through social media they are exposed to unrealistic expectations and beauty standards. This can make them self conscious about their appearance We think this a very important issue because in the world survey of Irish Adolescents 96% of teenagers aged 12-19 are reported to have a social media account. Similar surveys found other statistics such as; teenagers who spend more than 3 hours per day online were more likely to fall into very severe categories for depression and anxiety. 28% say that social media has made their life more difficult due to unrealistic life and beauty standards 28% say that social media has made their life more difficult due to unrealistic life and beauty standards 74% of adolescents noted heavy use of social media is linked to poor mental health outcomes including symptoms of depression and anxiety, poorer sleep … low self-esteem. It is worth solving because it is crucial that young people understand the true reality of social media and its impact on mental health as its affecting so many teenagers that don't realise they are all in this together and it's truly damaging their quality of life.
